Description

1923-S Monroe Half, Pastel-Toned MS67
A Key to the 50-Piece Commemorative Design Set

1923-S 50C Monroe MS67 PCGS. While the contorted female figures on the reverse may not make the most aesthetic design -- it seemed like a good idea at the time -- and the jugate profiles on the obverse are pedestrian, this Superb Gem is certainly among the most beautiful survivors of this issue we have ever seen. Pale pastel violet, gold, jade, and rose colors enliven portions of each side, the balance remaining silver-gray and the surfaces showing impeccable preservation. The surfaces show fine satin luster and remarkable eye appeal. The last time we handled an example in this grade and service was, in fact, this same piece in a lower-numbered holder: Lot 4538 in our Chicago ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2015), which realized $11,163. Population: 6 in 67 (1 in 67+), 0 finer (1/16).(Registry values: N2998)
