Description

1851 Ten Dollar Liberty, MS61
A Rare Issue in Mint State

1851 $10 MS61 NGC. The 1851 is an underrated issue in the eagle series, struck after the first influx of California gold reached the Philadelphia Mint. Bright, yellow-gold color evenly covers both sides of this frosted, finely granular example, with sharply struck devices and luster surrounding the raised elements. A glass reveals several tiny marks and abrasions, but no heavy contact. The S.S. Republic yielded 33 examples of the 1851 eagle, although no information is available on the provenance of this exact coin. Census: 11 in 61 (1 in 61+), 5 finer (4/18).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 263A, PCGS# 8606, Greysheet# 9372)

Weight: 16.72 grams
