Description

S-287 (R.2) 1811 Cent, Mint State Preservation

1811 1C MS60 Brown, Cleaned Uncertified. S-287, R.2. Die State Two. Like the 1808, 1809, and 1813 deliveries, the 1811 is characterized by poor planchets that explain the dark and/or corroded state of most survivors. This is not a problem-free coin, but the surfaces are exceptionally smooth for the issue with a rich, glossy-brown sheen. There are no singularly mentionable abrasions, and the strike is at least bold in all areas. The centers are a little shiny.
Ex: Merritt, lot 156; Warner, lot 3027; French Collection, lot 363; Sternberg Collection (Bolender, 3/56); Dorothy Paschal, via Ray Chatham; Tom Steinmetz; George Blenker (1/15/78); Robert G. Schick.
From the Robert Schick Collection.
