Description

1801 BD-2 Eagle, Attractive AU55
Great Type Example

1801 $10 BD-2, R.2, AU55 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b. A small die rust lump appears near the denticles between stars 2 and 3. This is the usually seen die state, showing nine vertical lines in Liberty's cap, the source of which is unknown (but the subject of considerable conjecture) today. Attractive orange-gold color enriches each side of this lightly circulated eagle. Faint planchet adjustment marks show below the date and above LIBERTY on the obverse. Some light field chatter appears, but there are only scattered minor marks on each side. Some light lavender tinges appear on the reverse. An attractive and nicely preserved example of this available early gold eagle variety, well-suited for a type or date set.
