Last Variety of the Year

1793 1/2 C AU53 NGC. C-4, B-4, R.3. Manley Die State 2, the usual state for this variety, with a faint die defect on the top of the 7 in the date. Four known 1793 half cent varieties combine two obverse dies (1 and 2) and three reverse dies (A, B, and C), interlocked in a simple (1-A, 1-B, 2-B, 2-C) emission sequence.
This example has pleasing olive-brown surfaces with a few splashes of darker brown toning. Handling marks are minimal, with a small edge dent at 12:30 that affects the border beads over ER of LIBERTY. A few trivial rim bruises are noted on the reverse. Our EAC grade VF35.(Registry values: P8)
