The Finest Doubled Die Obverse
1867 2C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS66 Red and Brown PCGS
Secure. PCGS has only certified 40 Mint State examples of this
important variety, and this piece is the finest numerically graded.
It is the only MS66 and enjoys a Red and Brown designation. NGC has
certified three MS66 examples, all designated Brown. The evidence
indicates that this is the finest surviving example of the popular
and elusive variety. Both sides have sharp details and rich orange
mint luster with splashes of lovely blue toning and traces of brown
overtones. Here is a highly attractive example and an extremely
