Description

1942/1-D Mercury Dime, MS64 Full Bands
Popular Guide Book Variety, FS-101

1942/1-D 10C FS-101 MS64 Full Bands PCGS. CAC. The 1942/1-D Mercury dime is a dual-hubbing variety doubled die overdate, with the doubling strongest on the 4 in the date. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is lightly doubled, as well, and the remnants of an undertype 1 are clearly visible below the final digit in the date. The 1942/1-D has been a popular Guide Book variety since 1970, and examples command high premiums whenever one is offered.

The present coin is an impressive Choice specimen, with sharply detailed design elements and fully split and rounded bands on the fasces. The well-preserved surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster from both sides, and subtle hints of pale gold toning add to the outstanding eye appeal.
