Penultimate 1872 Superb Proof Trime
1872 3CS PR67 NGC. This was a low mintage year for Three Cent Silver pieces in both business strike and proof format. Only 1,000 business strikes and 950 proofs were produced. Very few coins have received this lofty designation by either of the major services; in fact, only 11 altogether (2 by PCGS and 9 by NGC). What is even more surprising, especially when viewing this coin, is that NGC has actually certified two coins finer (1/05). The depth of mirrored reflectivity in the fields tends to overpower the tonal qualities, but each side displays an undeniable array of speckled, multicolored coloration that adds even more to the technical perfection and eye appeal of this penultimate Three Cent Silver piece.(#3723) (Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27CH, PCGS# 3723, Greysheet# 3703)
