1861-S Ten Dollar Liberty, AU58
Impressive Condition Rarity

1861-S $10 AU58 NGC. A coinage of only 15,500 Liberty eagles flowed from the presses of the San Francisco Mint in 1861, and the entire production total was distributed into circulation. A single coin survives in Mint State, graded MS61 NGC, which came out of the Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection in 1999. Excepting that coin, the finest examples of the date AU58 coins, of which the present piece is a member.

Moderate luster remains in the fields, illuminating warm peach-gold patina, with light wear over the devices. Scattered small abrasions and field chatter accompany the grade. Census: 14 in 58, 1 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N4719)
