Description

1878-CC Liberty Ten, AU50
Rare Carson City Issue

1878-CC $10 AU50 NGC. Variety 1-A. Light, yellow-gold surfaces are moderately abraded with a few areas of roughness -- some of which are normal for the issue, but also some that are unique to this coin. Technically, the coin is a well-detailed AU50 with a bit of mint luster remaining around the stars and legends, although this example is somewhat monotone in appearance.

With a mintage of just 3,244 pieces, this issue is always attracts attention from both series collectors and Carson City specialists. The date is coveted by those who recognize its rarity, which is on a par with its predecessor, the 1877-CC, as well as the 1873-CC. Census: 6 in 50, 18 finer (3/14).
