Description
1856-C Quarter Eagle, MS62
Tied for Finest at PCGS
1856-C $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. Variety 1. The only known dies. The
rough low areas on both sides are characteristic of 1856-C quarter
eagles and not limited to this coin. For that reason, they have no
affect on the assigned grade. This is only the second time that we
have offered a MS62 PCGS example of this issue since 1993, and the
two coins are the finest PCGS pieces that have appeared in our
sales. The present example displays brilliant and lustrous light
yellow surfaces with better than usual eye appeal. The strike is
lacking definition as always, although this example has better
detail than most others we have encountered. An important
opportunity for the Charlotte gold enthusiast. Population: 3 in 62,
0 finer (11/16).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25J8, PCGS# 7778, Greysheet# 8378)
Weight: 4.18 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
