Amazing Cameo Proof 1881 Three Cent Nickel, NGC PR68 (Star)
1881 3CN PR68 ★ Cameo NGC. Prior to 1878, mintages of minor Proof coinage was not specifically known. Beginning in that year, the Mint kept more accurate records of the production of these coins. Thus, the recorded figure of 3,575 coins for the Proof 1881 Three Cent Nickel coinage is considered to be accurate. This figure tops the silver Proof production by 2,600 coins.This remarkable Proof has fully brilliant surfaces with excellent contrast. Both sides are completely untoned with bright nickel-gray color. It also qualifies as tied for the finest proof example certified by NGC for the date, and for the type. NGC has certified two examples of this date as PR68 Cameo and two others as PR68 ★ Cameo. Population: 4 in 68, 0 finer (1/05).(#83777) (Registry values: N2998)
