Description

Select Mint State 1864 Small Motto Two-Cent Piece

1864 Small Motto MS 63 Brown NGC. A popular variety in a difficult-to-find grade. This is a very elusive issue that had a small, but unrecorded, mintage of probably no more than a few thousand pieces. Well struck overall but there is a bit of irregular weakness, most notably in the center of the shield on the obverse and at the top of NT on the reverse. While lustrous, the color is medium brown with significant areas of almost cobalt-blue patina seen here and there (almost exclusively on the obverse).
