Description
NGC 1866-S No Motto XF 45. An extremely rare Coronet ten whose original mintage of 8,500 pieces does not begin to convey the true scarcity of this date. It is an absolute rarity with perhaps no more than 12-14 pieces known in all grades as well as a condition rarity with only 2 other XF 45 coins known (both PCGS), these three pieces all being tied for finest known. A bit softly struck, most noticeably on the obverse, with considerable reddish color surrounding the devices. There are a few scattered abrasions on each side, but the ones that would serve best to identify this coin for pedigree purposes are a series of thin vertical pinscratches in the obverse field extending from the bottom of the bun to the back of the truncation of the neck. Trends $6950 in XF 40, $16,750 in AU 50 (1/4).
