Description
Brilliant Gem 1869-S Seated Dime
1869-S 10C MS65 PCGS. Fortin-102. The 1869-S (450,000 pieces produced) is the most easily obtainable S-mint Dime from the 1860s. We caution bidders, however, that this issue is typically encountered in circulated grades, usually below the XF level of preservation. Few survivors can rival this coin in terms of technical quality. Neither side reveals any mentionable abrasions, and the devices are crisply impressed in all areas. Interestingly enough, some diagonal roller marks are seen at the top of the obverse. Rich mint frost is overlaid by just a hint of golden iridescence. Gerry Fortin opines, "The Variety 102 die pairing with the Small Weak S mintmark is more difficult to locate than Variety 101 with the Small Thin S." Population: 2 in 65, 4 finer (3/05).From The Tim Cook Collection of Liberty Seated Dimes.(#4650) (Registry values: N2998)
