Description

Choice AU 1776 Continental Dollar

1776 $1 Continental Dollar, CURENCY, Pewter AU55 PCGS. Breen-1089, Newman 1-C, Hodder 1-A.3, R.3. Early dollar specialists like to include this famous issue as representative of the first dollar-size pieces produced on behalf of the American Congress. Struck in pewter, this piece has typical light to medium gray surfaces, somewhat lighter in color on the reverse. Most of the design elements are boldly defined, although portions of the outer ring on the obverse are sadly absent, above the date and below CURE. Some peripheral weakness is evident on the reverse and both sides have minor scrapes and bruises. Despite these issues, this piece retains considerable luster and presents an attractive appearance.
