Description

Mint State 1859 Eagle

1859 MS 60 NGC. The 1859 is a rare date in all grades and is considered by Breen to be "prohibitively rare (in) BU." Only 16,093 pieces were struck. This is a mid-Condition Census coin with the finest certified an MS 62 (5/98). The surfaces are totally original and display a deep, even, golden-orange patina with pink accents on the highpoints of the devices. The original, reflective mint luster can still be seen around and within the protected areas of the design. Well struck in the centers, but as usual, showing softness of strike on the peripheral stars. While there are a number of field marks on each side, it would be difficult to single one out as more distinctive than another.
