Description

Well-Detailed 1795 B-5, BB-27 Dollar, AU53

1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Three Leaves AU53 NGC. B-5, BB-27, R.1. Specialists soon learn to identify this familiar Bowers-Borckardt variety by the bold die line or "bar" of extra metal behind the highest hair curl on Liberty. The authors estimate that the variety exists to the extent of 2,500-3,500 examples in all grades. Deep olive and lilac embrace this splendidly detailed final-year Flowing Hair dollar, which exhibits only light wear on the eagle's breast and on Liberty's cheek and shoulder. Close perusal with a loupe reveals some minor mint-made adjustment marks at 10 o'clock on the reverse, but there is no detrimental contact requiring singular mention.(Registry values: N4719)
