Description
1883-S Morgan Dollar, MS64+
Much Better Branch Mint Issue, CAC
1883-S $1 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. VAM-11. The die variety is
identified by the 1, the first 8 and the 3 in the date being
slightly doubled, along with two doubled diagonal polishing lines
at the bottom edge of the Phrygian cap. Despite a mintage of more
than 6.2 million pieces, the 1883-S Morgan dollar is a better date
in high grade. Few examples were saved by contemporary collectors,
and the 1883-S was not well-represented in the Treasury releases of
the 1960s. This attractive and high-end Choice example displays
detailed design elements and well-preserved, lustrous surfaces that
show highlights of pale-jade, orange, and lavender toning. The PCGS
Plus designation and CAC endorsement set this coin above legions of
other near-Gem examples without those designations.Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2020), lot 4023.(Registry values: P7, N2998)
