Description

1862/1 Three Cent Silver, MS67
Superb Strike Quality

1862/1 3CS MS67 NGC. FS-301. Razor-sharp details and semiprooflike fields give this superb FS-301 representative spectacular visual appeal. Both sides show a touch of light golden color, and the surfaces are free of abrasions.

Variety: FS-301. An underlying 1 is evident within the loop of the 2 in the date. This overdate is likely the result of reuse of a still serviceable but outdated die, rather than the product of a die preparation error.

Population Data (3/15): NGC records 13 MS67 (one MS67 ) and none finer. PCGS shows 15 in this grade (one MS67+) with none finer.

Heritage Commentary: The overdate is not truly rare in Mint State, but it is significantly scarcer at this level than its normal date counterpart. Superb Gems are the finest available to collectors but rarely encountered at auction.

Provenance: Purchased from Legend Numismatics (10/1998).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 3681, Greysheet# 3641)

Weight: 0.75 grams

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
