Description

Early Stage 1806 B-9 Quarter, AU Sharpness

1806 25C --Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. B-9, R.1 for the variety, which is attributed by: the missing lower left serif of 1, the flag of which touches the hair curl; the tip of the flag of the 5 embedded in the arrow feathers; and five large berries, two inside and three outside of the olive branch. This piece hails from an unusual early die state.
The silver-colored surfaces retain traces of luster in the recesses, and reveal occasional fine hairlines under magnification. A few brownish toning streaks are visible on the obverse. The design elements are sharply defined, except for softness in the eagle's breast feathers and adjacent shield stripes. A few light adjustment marks are located on the central reverse, but significant abrasions are absent.(Registry values: P5)
