Description
Deep Cameo PR64 1880 Gold Dollar
1880 G$1 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. The 1884 through 1889 gold dollars each have proof mintages of more than 1,000 pieces. By comparison, the proof mintage of the 1880 is only 36 pieces. Business strikes are also rare, limited to a mere 1,600 pieces. Prooflike business strikes and proofs are distinguished by the quality of strike on the plumes, and by slight recutting within the 8s in the date. The blatant deep cameo contrast on the present specimen further confirms its proof status.(Registry values: P4)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25EP, PCGS# 97630, Greysheet# 8180)
