Not Sold Description
1857 MS 65 Red NGC. By 1857, the half cent was a dying breed. The denomination was discontinued the following year, and both commercial and collector interest were at a minimum. As a result, the 1857 half cent has always been a little harder to find in all grades and has enjoyed a slight date premium. The coin offered here is at the pinnacle of those few that were preserved in mint state condition. Medium orange-red with satiny luster, this piece is the only one graded MS 65 Red by either PCGS or NGC. We are certain that some astute collector of copper will cherish this opportunity to own the very best.
