Description

1877-S Five Dollar, AU58
Lustrous Fields, Sharp Motifs

1877-S $5 AU58 NGC. With a mintage of 26,700 pieces, the 1877-S half eagle is scarcer than generally realized. Circulated examples are rarely seen in any AU grade let alone AU58, and Mint State coins are prohibitively rare. This near-Mint coin displays a sharp strike and original orange-gold patina with luster in the protected regions. Other than a few tiny ticks on Liberty's cheek and below the chin, there are no mentionable abrasions. Census: 10 in 58, 1 finer (7/16).
