Description

1810 1/2 C AU58 NGC. C-1, B-1, R.2. The lone variety for the year. High grade half cents of 1810 are elusive in today's numismatic marketplace. Although there are many AU and Mint State coins known, they seldom appear for sale. Only a trace of friction is visible on this well struck half cent's rich rosewood and chocolate surfaces. The reverse is rotated approximately 45 degrees counterclockwise. Weakness at the right side is explained by Ronald Manley in his Half Cent Die State Book: "Typical 1810 C-1 half cents have nonparallel die faces, resulting in a characteristic striking weakness on the right obverse and reverse sides." The planchet of this piece is visually out of round. EAC 50. Census: 3 in 58, 12 finer (12/08).(Registry values: P5)

Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 1132, Greysheet# 516)

Weight: 5.44 grams

Metal: 100% Copper
