Description

1868 Half Eagle, AU58+
Reflective Fields
Rarely Seen This Fine

1868 $5 AU58+ NGC. Coming from a mintage of only 5,000 coins, the 1868 half eagle is rare in the upper AU grades and is extremely so in Mint State. This Plus-graded near-Mint coin is highly appealing. Reflective fields frame sharp design elements amid warm rose-gold patina. There is no obvious high-point wear, although scattered abrasions certainly contribute to the grade. Census: 14 in 58 (1 in 58+), 2 finer (1/17).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25W5, PCGS# 8315, Greysheet# 8914)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
