Challenging MS63 1886 Three Dollar
1886 $3 MS63 PCGS. The 1886 three dollar gold piece had an original mintage of 1,000 business strikes. Unimpaired survivors are typically found in XF through MS62. Anything finer is surprisingly rare, unlike the hoarded 1888. The current Select specimen displays rich apricot-gold color and possesses semiprooflike fields that highlight the satiny motifs. A desirable example, despite a solitary tiny spot on the left obverse field. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 5 in 63, 6 finer (4/09).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25N9, PCGS# 8008, Greysheet# 8657)
