Description

Shining Near-Mint 1871-CC Eagle

1871-CC $10 AU58 NGC. Despite a mintage of 8,085 pieces, the 1871-CC eagle is actually one of the more available Carson City eagles of that decade in lower grades, according to Winter (2001). Regardless of its status in Very Fine and below, this issue remains a condition rarity in Choice AU and becomes even more elusive in near-Mint. The strongly lustrous surfaces of this noteworthy coin are predominantly wheat-gold with emerald accents in the fields. Well struck overall with solid detail on the reverse, though the central hair and lower stars reveal a touch of softness. Only a trace of friction is present on the highpoints, and the piece has strong eye appeal despite the scattered abrasions found on almost every 1871-CC eagle. NGC has graded just two finer examples, and PCGS has certified only one (6/07).(Registry values: N7079)
