Description

1852 Wass Molitor Ten Dollar, XF45
Large Head, Wide Date, K-4

1852 $10 Wass Molitor Ten Dollar, Large Head, Wide Date XF45 NGC. K-4, R.5. The neck is short and the lower left corner of the bust is pointed. The obverse die was cut too deep, which caused the reverse to appear significantly weaker. The peripheral details are also softly struck. A number of thin die cracks are seen around the perimeter of the obverse, as always for this variety. Charming apricot-gold patina envelops both sides. Scattered abrasions limit the grade. An appealing example of this rare variety. Listed on page 372 of the 2010 Guide Book.
