VAM-23, 'Crazy Lips'
Doubled Die Obverse
1878 8TF $1 Crazy Lips, VAM-23, MS64 Prooflike PCGS. A Top
100 Variety and WOW! Morgan VAM. Leonard Hinckley is credited with
documenting this variety in February 1974. Die doubling on the
obverse is quite prominent on Liberty's lips, earning moniker
"Crazy Lips." This Choice Prooflike example displays gold and rose
bag toning on the obverse with canvas cloth pattern in the patina,
while most of the reverse is brilliant, save for orange-gold around
the borders. Slight central strike softness is apparent.From The Puccini Collection of Toned Morgan Dollars.
