Description
Impressive, High Grade 1859 Gold Dollar, MS66
1859 G$1 MS66 PCGS. Undoubtedly the mintage of 168,244 pieces gives the 1859 gold dollar an illusion of availability that is not born out in reality. It is very scarce in high grades with only six pieces graded MS66 and five others in higher condition according to PCGS (1/10). This is a lovely example that has luminous reddish-gold surfaces. The usually seen die striations are present in the fields, but there is no evidence of the often-seen die clash marks. A small area of porosity in the planchet can be seen to the right of the denomination. The striking details are complete throughout.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25CL, PCGS# 7551, Greysheet# 8021)
