Exact 1795 Head

1794 1C S-72 R2 Exact Head of 1795 VF35 PCGS. Rather glossy dark steel and olive brown with lighter steel brown on the devices. LDS, Breen state IV, Heck state 5, with die cracks on both sides and strong die clashmarks on the obverse. Graded VF35 net VF25 and tied for CC#23 in the Noyes census, his photo #38664. This cataloger's EAC grade is net VF25. A decent example of the 1794 with Exact Head of 1795 variety. Ex Douglas F. Bird 7/22/1988-Richard V. Punchard-Paul S. Mory, Sr., Bowers & Merena 6/22/2000:68 ($1725)-COL Steven K. Ellsworth.

The Paul S. Mory Sr. Collection, auctioned by Bowers and Merena in June 2000, contained notable copper highlights that drew strong attention. Large cents featured prominently, beginning with 1793 issues in collectible grades and extending through early 19th-century rarities. The sale included key dates such as 1799 and 1804 cents, along with high-grade Classic Head and Matron Head examples, many with pedigrees to earlier significant collections.

Later large cents were offered in both Mint State and proof, spanning the 1830s through the late 1850s. The cataloguing highlighted originality and surface quality, appealing to advanced specialists. Though the collection was broad, including gold and silver, the copper coins provided a strong foundation, demonstrating Mory's care in building a balanced yet selective cabinet of U.S. coinage.
