1822 1C AU53 PCGS. N-9, R.5. Our EAC Grade VF35. Ex: Naftzger Collection. A fine die crack bisects the reverse from the border at 1 o'clock to about 6:30. A retained cud on TES sill shows the dentils over those letters. The obverse is mostly mahogany with hints of steel-brown, and the reverse is steel-brown with mahogany overtones. A few small marks are noted, mostly on the obverse, including marks on the bust point, chin, and below star 9. This rare late die state specimen is the second finest known 1822 N-9 cent.
