Description
Very Rare VF30 1866-S No Motto Ten
1866-S $10 No Motto VF30 PCGS. The 1866-S No Motto is even rarer than implied by its mintage of 8,500 pieces. It is much rarer than the heralded 1866-S No Motto twenty. Perhaps no one in California collected branch mint eagles prior to the 1890s, by which time such pieces had nearly vanished from circulation. This example has rich orange-red reverse coloration, and the eagle's plumage is bold for the grade. A pinscratch above TEN provides the only noticeable mark. Population: 3 in 30, 16 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 264H, PCGS# 8644, Greysheet# 9466)
Weight: 16.72 grams
