Description
Attractively Toned 1879 Half Dollar, MS66
1879 50C MS66 PCGS. The 1879 half dollar saw a minuscule mintage of 4,800 circulation strikes, likely due to the implementation of the Bland-Allison Act of 1878 that required mints to purchase large amounts of silver bullion for producing vast quantities of silver dollars. Waves of cobalt-blue, purple, and golden-orange patina concentrate at the obverse margin, ceding to silver-gray in the center. The same color scheme is randomly distributed over the reverse. Partially prooflike fields establish modest contrast with the satiny motifs. Generally well defined and cared for. Population: 43 in 66, 15 finer (8/08).From The Sundance Collection.(Registry values: N2998)
