Description

1888 50C MS63 (PR63?) PCGS. The date positioning and the spur from the rim under the F of HALF seem to indicate that this coin is a proof (compare with the 1888 PR67 in our July-August 2008 ANA sale, lot 589). The mirrored fields of this Select example establish noticeable contrast with the satiny devices. A powerful strike results in bold definition on the design elements, save for softness in the left (facing) claw. A splash or two of light gold-tan color visit each side. Wispy handling marks in the fields define the numerical grade.(Registry values: N1793)
