SICILY. Syracuse. Tyrant Dionysius. Ca. 405-367 BC. AR tetradrachm (25mm, 16.39 gm, 11h). Struck circa 405-395 BC. Charioteer driving fast quadriga left, holding kentron and reins, Nike flying right above, crowning charioteer; grain ear in exergue / ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙ-Ω-Ν, head of Arethusa left, wearing looped earrings and beaded necklace, hair in ampyx and sphendone, surrounded by four dolphins. Tudeer 82 (V30/R55). SNG ANS 290 (same dies). Rare die pairing! Nicely toned Very Fine.Ex M & M list 542 (1991), 14; W. Talbot Raedy Collection (Feuardent 1919), lot 90.
