Description
Majestic 1942-D Lincoln Cent, MS68 Red
1942-D 1C MS68 Red PCGS. Only two '42-D Lincoln cents have been graded MS68 Red by PCGS, and none have been graded above MS67 Red by NGC. A close examination of this Superb Gem clearly shows why it is one of the two finest known pieces from this issue. The design details are evenly and crisply struck, and come about as close to being full as ever seen on a Lincoln cent from the World War II era. The effulgent, shimmering luster and beautiful light red-gold coloration make the coin appear as if it were only recently struck. Perhaps most impressive of all, for the type, is the immaculate surface preservation, that holds up under inspection with a magnifier, failing to reveal even the smallest of marks. Only a faint carbon speck, in the upper reverse field area just to the right of ONE, keeps this piece from virtual perfection. Population: 2 in 68, 0 finer (9/08).Ex: The Joshua and Ally Walsh Collection of United States Cents (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 292.
