Description

Franz I platinum Paris Mint Visit Medal 1814, Paris mint, Bramsen-1465, Choice UNC. 40mm/88.97gms. Plain edge. Untoned and impressively detailed with a high relief bust on the obverse and very minor handling in the fields. An incredibly rare restrike in this metal and the first we have seen or heard of. Apparently issued in set form as the accompanying box, suggestive of a turn of the 20th century vintage, has room for four coins. One of the four, an Alexander I Paris Mint Visit medal, was sold in our January 2013 auction for an astounding $49,937.50. More information on that medal can be found at www.HA.com/3030*24922.
