Description
Meiji silver 50 Sen Year 13 (1880), KM-Y25, JNDA 1-14, J&V S7, VF35 NGC. Gray and russet patina, with light contact marks and a decent strike. As far as we know, the first example sold since the Pittman sale in 1999. Only a few examples known (5-6) of the original mintage of 179 pieces, and since all were struck as part of a Presentation Set, and struck in Proof, this may be the only example that actually circulated to any great extent. Like the Meiji 7, one of the great rarities of the 50 Sen series. Mr. Jacobs purchased this piece through Isao Gunji in 1946.Metal: Silver
Diameter: 30.50mm
Weight: 13.48g
