Description
Lovely 1854-D Large Mintmark Half Eagle
1854-D $5 Large D AU55 NGC. Obverse 30, Reverse new. Apparently unknown to Winter, from a previously undescribed reverse die. The large mintmark is centered over the E in FIVE, and it is placed high in the alloted space, its upper right curve touching the branch stem and its upper left serif touching the tip of the arrow feather. This Choice AU example has satiny surfaces with attractive deep yellow color and considerable luster. Traces of orange toning appear within certain letters, and around the devices.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UK, PCGS# 8258, Greysheet# 9008)
