Description

(1800) Washington Funeral Urn Medal
GW-70 in Silver, AU53
Engraved by Jacob Perkins

(1800) Washington Funeral Urn Medal, Silver, AU53 PCGS. Baker-166A, Fuld 1-B, GW-70. 29 mm. Plain edge. Jacob Perkins of Newburyport, Massachusetts was the engraver and issuer of the Funeral Urn medals. These typically have small holes near 12 o'clock, as they were intended to be worn at George Washington's February 22 funeral procession in Boston. Fuld 1-B has a berry beneath the H in THE, and a period west of the top of the urn. This example is nicer than most, since high-point wear is minimal and both sides display rich tan-brown, sky-blue, and plum-red patina. One back-and-forth line is on the field east of the urn.
