Description

Iconic Gold Type of Peter III

Peter III gold 10 Roubles 1762-CПБ AU58 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-C50, Fr-126, Bit-1 (R1). Of the utmost rarity to Russian collectors, where even silver emissions from the short and tumultuous reign of Peter III garner impressive sums. While the features of Peter's bust are characteristically soft, the reverse faces up much finer, with each detail of the arms practically as-struck and laden with amber silhouettes. Decorated with an allover charming eye appeal via autumnal hues to the peripheries and a gentle flash witnessed across the fields, the current representative endures as a top-tier survivor. Although more examples of Peter's 1762-dated 10 Roubles exist in conditional censuses than those of Catherine II, this single-year type remains the only collectible, large gold issue of his reign and thus is fiercely contested in any condition when brought to market as confirmed by a quick survey of recent auction appearances. Of those currently certified, only two rank finer in NGC's population report, and as such, is most worthy of advanced bids from Russian type collectors.
