Description

Ferdinand I gold "Last Supper" Medal of 10 Ducats 1534-Dated MS63 NGC, Husz-21, Horsky-Unl., Julius-Unl. 44mm. 35.14gm. By Christoph Fueszl. A very rare production commemorating the Last Supper, displaying the iconic scene of Christ seated with the apostles to his sides. The carefully engraved design features a striking degree of detail, a lustrous gleam emanating from the recesses and open areas alike to indicate a degree of preservation that is decidedly within the bounds of Mint State. The first that we have seen, and truly superb. For comparison, we note that an example (the only one that we could locate) sold in a European auction for a hammer price of 8,000 Euros in April of 2017, despite a noted repair and the presence of some wear.
