Description

1898 Indian Cent, PR67 Red Cameo
Exceptional Top-Graded Coin, CAC Endorsed

1898 1C PR67 Red Cameo PCGS. CAC. Snow PR2. Almost completely immersed in honey-gold patina with boldly medium-red accents and frosted central motifs, this 1898 Superb Gem Cameo proof cent is fully lustrous and sharply struck. The Mint produced 1,795 proofs from five confirmed die pairs. While 735 proofs were sold as part of the silver sets, the balance was available for minor sets and individual purchase. Many of those non-numismatic proof sales likely ended up in circulation. The PR67 grade remains tops for the red Cameo designation. No higher graded Red Cameo proofs have emerged in the past 20+ years by either PCGS or NGC. PCGS Population: 5 in 67 Red Cameo, 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 67, 0 finer (12/25).
