Description

1806 S-270, B-1 Cent, MS63 Brown
Century-Old Provenance

1806 1C S-270, B-1, R.1, MS63 Brown PCGS. CAC. Ex: Dan Holmes Collection. Breen Die State IV, the latest recorded in the Breen Large Cent Encyclopedia, this piece has heavy clash marks, bulges, flowlines, and die cracks. Although common as a die variety, this is the only die marriage of the year, and therefore experiences increased demand from date collectors. Peripheral strike weakness on both sides is an artifact of the advanced die state. Intermingled olive and steel-brown toning appear on both sides of this lovely, lustrous cent. Areas of darker toning appear on both sides. Del Bland grades this piece MS61 and tied for second finest known. Bill Noyes grades it AU55 and tied for the sixth finest 1806 cent. The provenance reads like a who's who of large cent collectors. Our EAC Grade MS60. PCGS 1806 Population: 4 in 63 Brown, 2 finer. PCGS S-270 Population: 3 in 63 Brown, 1 finer (11/21).
