Description

1879 Half Dollar, Brilliant MS67
Conditionally Rare, Low-Mintage Issue

1879 50C Closed Bud, WB-102, MS67 PCGS. Prompted by its low 4,800-piece mintage, the 1879 Seated half issue was saved by speculators, coin dealers, and collectors alike. It remains available in most grades to this day. During 1879 and in succeeding years, the Philadelphia Mint concentrated on silver dollar production and issued only small half dollar quantities during the following decade. It is only at the Superb Gem level that the 1879 becomes rare. This frosty and lustrous silver-white example displays a faint golden accents at the peripheries and features a needle-sharp strike. A few short luster grazes at Liberty's knees do not distract from the Mint-fresh surfaces. PCGS Population: 19 in 67 (4 in 67+), 2 finer (8/25).
