Description

1795 North Wales Halfpenny, AU50
Rare Lettered Edge Variety, W-11155

1795 1/2P Washington North Wales Halfpenny, Lettered Edge, One Star at Each Side of Harp AU50 PCGS. Baker-34A, W-11155, High R.6. The Lettered Edge variety (PAYABLE IN LANCASTER LONDON OR BRISTOL) is much rarer than the Plain Edge variety. A medium brown example with nearly unmarked surfaces. The strike shows softness on Washington's hair and opposite on the lower left portion of the harp, characteristic of the issue. The blurry definition on the obverse peripheral legend, and the granular texture on the reverse field, are as made and caused by a late die state. Listed on page 84 of the 2015 Guide Book.
