Description

1839 Gobrecht Dollar, PR40 Details
Judd-104 Original, Die Alignment IV

1839 P$1 Name Omitted, Judd-104 Original, Pollock-116, R.3 -- Plugged, Repaired, Whizzed -- ANACS. PR40 Details. Silver. Reeded Edge. Die Alignment IV (medal turn, the head of Liberty is opposite the F in OF). Before bidders spend too much time trying to confirm Original vs. Restrike, here is an extended quote from the DTS Attribution Guide: "There are about 25 to 30 alignment IV circulated pieces in various grades. While it is impossible to die state coins much below AU, we can state that we have not seen a naturally circulated alignment IV J104 that is a Restrike. We thus presume that all naturally circ coins are Originals." Much of the qualifiers listed on the ANACS holder are diminished by the charcoal-gray toning that covers most of each side. Slightly brighter accents are seen over the high points.
