Description

1795 NC-3, B-7 Cent, Poor 1
The Jack Beymer Discovery Coin

1795 1C Plain Edge Poor 1 NGC. NC-3, B-7, High R.7. Jack Beymer discovered the NC-3 die combination in April 1980, and since that time, five additional pieces have been located. This example is the original discovery coin, and the lowest grade of all six examples. However, despite extensive wear, it is extremely attractive with smooth medium brown surfaces. The head of Liberty is nearly completely outlined with a few hair strands visible, as well as LIB of LIBERTY and the 5 in the date. About half of the reverse details are also visible. The finest example grades just Good 4, based on EAC standards, so all known specimens are "rather uninspiring" as Bob Grellman wrote in the Dan Holmes catalog.
Ex: Washington, D.C. coin show (7/1979); Jack Beymer who discovered the variety on April 5, 1980; Dr. Robert J. Shalowitz (5/1981); R.E. Naftzger, Jr. (2/23/1992); Eric Streiner (3/20/1992); Robinson S. Brown, Jr. (Superior, 1/1996), lot 109; Chris Victor-McCawley (FPL, 3/1997); later, to Phil Clover.
